Eaves drip metal is an important component to a roof system.
Q: What is eaves drip metal?
A: Eaves drip metal is an L shaped strip of metal that is installed beneath the roofing material and overlaps the edge of the eaves.
Naturally water is going to drain off of the roof. To protect the fascia and roof decking, eaves drip metal spans the entire perimeter of the roof. Eaves drip metal is bent in a way that channels the water away from the roof edges. This protects the fascia as well as the roof deck from water penetration.
There is another added benefit to eaves drip metal. When the shingles are installed we slightly overhang them past the edge of the roof for added protection. This overhang allows water to drip off of the roof instead of down the side of the fascia. The eaves drip also extends past the edge of the roof and acts as a structural support for the overhanging shingles. This helps the outermost shingles last longer and prevents premature cracking or splitting.
