Why do i need a chimney cricket installed on my roof?
Imagine water running down your roof and meeting a “dead” area at the base of the chimney. Naturally water will flow around the chimney and off of the roof. If this area is not designed for optimal water flow, over time the water will find a weak area ultimately causing a roof leak.
Debris can build up on the roof!
This “dead” area can also collect debris if not designed properly. The debris will get caught and over time build up. Debris accumulation is not a good thing anywhere on a roof system. It will retain moisture and possibly cause the roofing materials to rot resulting in a roof leak.
What is a chimney cricket?
For chimneys with a small footprint this is not as big of an issue but with larger chimney’s we recommend installing a “chimney cricket” on the roof. A chimney cricket is a built up structure installed where the downward roof slope meets the chimney. It is designed to divert the water away from the chimney ultimately reducing the chance of roof leaks around the chimney.
